Happy 2009
I need someplace simple where we could live
And something only you can give
And thats faith and trust and peace while we're alive

Top Nine Movie Songs
Not in any particular order...
Two from An American Tail, staring Fivel:
1. There are No Cats in AmericaBut there are no cats in AmericaAnd the streets are paved with cheeseAs much as I love cats, this song is so genius and hopeful.
2. DuoWe're a duo, a duoBecause it always makes me think of me and Jason and makes me smile.
A pair of lonely ones
Who are meant to be a two
Oh, a duo, it's true-oh
Wherever we go
We're going me and you
The next two from Sound of Music, because it is the ultimate in movie music magic:
3. The Sound of MusicI go to the hills when my heart is lonelyCertain songs take us all away and fill places in our hearts, plus who doesn't want to go to the hills where she sang this song.
I know I will hear what I've heard before
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I'll sing once more
4. I am Sixteen, Going on SeventeenTotally unprepared am IMe, a romantic at heart, wanting always to be protected and taken care of.
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared am I
... I will depend on you
5. Falling Slowly, Glen Hansard, OnceTake this sinking boat and point it homeWho can't fall in love with this movie, this story behind the story, the Academy Award for best song, just romantic all around. Inspirational, plus just a plain beautiful song.
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along
The next three are instrumentals, where the cinematography and scenes speak to my heart for not so obvious reasons.
6. Looks Like a Suicide, Dances with Wolves
John Barry is one of our time's best composers. This song sets off the movie and the cinematography is simply one of the most beautiful things I have seen, even in the midst of a potentially tragic event. The horse he rides is stunning.
7. Titles, Chariots of Fire
Probably one of the most recognizable movie theme songs, this song and opening scene probably did more to solidify my love of movies than any other.
8. It Never Entered My Mind, Miles Davis, from Runaway Bride
Ahhh Runaway Bride, one of my top 2 or 3 movies, it is only fitting that I pay homage to the movie that introduced me to Miles Davis. I am eternally grateful.
Not to mention, his instrumental songs ARE romantic.
9. Puff, the Magic Dragon from Meet the Parents
Thanks to Leslie for reminding me of this great song. I don't know if it appeared in any movies when it originally came out, but who can forget it in Meet the Parents.

Oh Dear...
Who do you want in office to respond to this? Two Russian bombers land in Venezuela
On Monday, Russia announced it might hold joint naval maneuvers with Venezuela in the Caribbean. The declaration came in the wake of increased tension between Russia and the United States over Russia's invasion last month of the former Soviet republic of Georgia, a U.S. ally that aspires to join NATO.
